Dr Harvinder Singh Chhabra
Dr Harvinder Chhabra is a spinal surgeon and was appointed Chief of Spine and Rehabilitation Centre at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute, New Delhi, India in April 2023. Prior to this he served as Chief of Spine Service and Medical Director at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi, India for 32 years.
Harvinder is President of the Spinal Cord Society, Indian Chapter, and Immediate Past President of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) and Association of Spine Surgeons of India. He is the former Chair of the Asian Spinal Cord Network and has served on numerous other national, regional and international boards and committees. In 2013 he was awarded the ISCoS Medal for his outstanding contribution to the prevention and treatment of spinal cord injury.
Through major research projects, publications including over 130 journal articles, textbook chapters, and conference and symposia presentations, and more than 3,000 spinal surgeries, Harvinder has made significant contributions to the field of spinal cord injury. As ISCoS President, Dr Chhabra was Editor in Chief of the ISCoS textbook on Comprehensive Management of Spinal Cord Injury, the first such all-inclusive textbook; and as Chair of the ISCoS Education Committee was Chief Editor and Project Manager for the development of the elearnSCI.org online education portal for health professionals.
Harvinder has a long association with the Spinal Research Institute and was a member of the Hub Advisory Group who provided expert guidance in the development of the SRI’s Spinal Cord Research Hub (SCoRH).
