After eight years as a Director of the Spinal Research Institute (SRI), Dr Con Mylonas has recently decided to step down from the Board. Con was a founding member of the Institute and its first independent Chair, from December 2013 until his recent resignation due to increased work commitments.
Being both a doctor and a lawyer, Con brought a very valuable perspective to the work of the Institute. His legal skills complemented the skills of other Board members, to form a strong team dedicated to promoting the SRI’s mission.
Con led the Board during the development of the Spinal Cord Research Hub (SCoRH), an online platform that facilitates collaboration among researchers and clinicians around the world. It is the first such platform in the field of spinal cord clinical research. SCoRH is the most important achievement of the SRI during Con’s tenure on the Board and is a tribute to his leadership and a tangible legacy of his time with the SRI.
We are sincerely grateful for Con’s contributions over the last eight years and wish him well in his future endeavours.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Fi Slaven to the position of Chair. Fi is General Manager of William Buck (Vic) and joined the Board of the SRI in August 2018. She is also a Board member of Austin Health. We look forward to working under Fi’s leadership as we pursue our mission to improve the lives of people with spinal cord injury, through our research collaboration and consumer engagement programs. We profiled Fi in the SRI’s December 2018 newsletter.
